Singapore Life in FocusWell-known as the “Garden City,” Singapore’s nickname traces back to Lee Kuan Yew’s vision in 1967. Nearly 60 years on, that vision has clearly taken root. Through thoughtful planning and long-term commitment, Singapore has grown into a place where greenery and city life exist side by side. You can see it everywhere—from tree-lined streets and park connectors to lush vertical gardens and landmarks like Gardens by the Bay.
One particularly meaningful aspect of this effort is how Singapore has conserved and repurposed spaces from its past. These areas carry history, yet have been adapted for modern life, creating a quiet but powerful contrast between what was and what is.
With that in mind, this photo series is titled Transitions. On a literal level, the images capture the shift of the Rail Corridor from a working railway into a green, shared space for recreation and wildlife. It’s a transformation that reflects the very essence of the “Garden City.”
At the same time, this series isn’t only about a place—it’s also about perspective. Transitions are a constant in our lives. As you explore the series, consider reflecting on your own changes unfolding right now – big or small, visible or quiet, chosen or unexpected.
This series is dedicated to my late grandfather, Charles Ullman, who had a life-long passion for trains and loving advice to enjoy life and be happy. (March 29, 19826 - March 25, 2026)
