Foreign Tour: The Idyllic Charm of Laos

Laos’s isolation from foreign influence offers travelers an unparalleled glimpse of traditional Southeast Asian life. From the fertile lowlands of the Mekong River valley to the rugged Annamite highlands, Laos is certainly charming, offering some of the most untarnished attractions in the region.

Visit the capital city of Vientiane before exploring Luang Prabang. Set by the meandering Mekong River, filled with ancient temples and old houses, Luang Prabang is one of the most alluring places in Southeast Asia and for most travelers, it is the last haven in Asia.

  • Cost: S$3,350 per person on twin-sharing basis, S$1,100 per person single room supplement

  1. Register below ($50 non-refundable fee) to hold your place for a period of one week.

  2. Complete the AWA Foreign Tours Release Form (click here) and send to the tour organizer at foreigntours@awasingapore.org.

  3. Within a week after registration, visit the Country Holidays office at 250 North Bridge Road, #10-03 Raffles City Tower to pay in-person a S$500 non-refundable deposit payable to “Country Holidays Travel Pte Ltd” by cash, check, or credit card no later than June 22. If you are an American Club member, you can also settle the deposit at the Travel Desk located in the club.

  4. Make your final payment to Country Holidays no later than August 22.


Day 1: Monday, October 22 - Singapore/Luang Prabang (Dinner)

Fly Singapore/Luang Prabang Silkair MI787 09:00/11:10 (3h 10m)

Transfer to The Avani hotel. This afternoon, visit the Royal Palace Museum, then transfer to a nearby village to participate in a Baci Ceremony, which expresses good luck to travelers. Return to the hotel for a traditional dinner.

Day 2: Tuesday, October 23 - Luang Prabang (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Rise early morning to observe the monks’ alms giving. Visit Wat Xiengthong, reknown for its beauty, and Wat Khili, home to The Buddhist Archive of Photography. In the afternoon, tour the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre guided by the Centre’s Director before climbing Mt. Phousi during sunset, which is 150 meters above the centre of town. 

Day 3: Wednesday, October 24 - Luang Prabang (Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner)

Be a rice farmer this morning at an Organic Farm before visiting Kuang Si Waterfall, where you can enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the falls. Drop in at the Bear Rescue Centre for a quick visit before we end the day cruising the Mekong River. 

Day 4: Thursday, October 25 - Luang Prabang (Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, DInner)

Drive an hour to a quaint village and experience a kayak adventure along the Mekong with a picnic lunch on the beach overlooking the karst scenery, before visiting the sacred Pak Ou Cave. 

Day 5: Friday, October 26 - Luang Prabang/Vientiane (Breakfast, Dinner)

You have the morning free for own exploration. You can choose to shop or indulge in a spa treatment. For the adventurous, you can hire a bike and tour the city (price not included). 

Transfer to the airport for a scenic flight to Vientiane.

Upon arrival, tour Vientiane with your expert guide covering French-colonial landmarks and Buddhist temples. Then, transfer to your hotel, Settha Palace. In the evening, dine on Lao cuisine while enjoying traditional dance and music.

Day 6: Saturday, October 27 - Vientiane / Singapore (Breakfast)

Visit the COPE exhibition, which highlights the everyday problem of living among unexploded ordnance from the Vietnam War era. Then, it's on to the weaving home-studio of Mrs. Carol Cassidy who is an American textiles expert. Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

EVENT PAYMENT (for online registration events): 
You can pay using a PayPal account, or a debit/credit card. To pay with a debit/credit card, when you get to the PayPal screen, please click 'check out as guest'.

• Bookings open on the first working day of the month.
• You must register in advance to attend an event.
• If an event is full, please join the waitlist. If a member wishes to cancel & cannot find a replacement, they can cancel their space with the AWA office. The space will then be offered to the waitlist, in date order.
• The event ends at approximately the listed time.
• Only adults over 18 years may attend AWA tours unless otherwise designated.
• Family members and out of town guests pay AWA member price, other Singapore residents pay the guest price.

• If the event is marked non-refundable, then no refund can be given.
• All other AWA event fees include a $5 non-refundable admin charge. This cannot be returned under any circumstances.
• If an event is not marked as non-refundable, you may cancel your attendance by emailing office@awasingapore.org 4 working days prior to the event.
• If you paid online, we will refund you via Paypal. If you paid by any other method you will be asked for your preferred refund method, cash or check.
• You may transfer your attendance to another AWA member or to another identical event (e.g. Mahjong game to Mahjong game) no less than 4 working days prior to the event, by emailing office@awasingapore.org with the new attendee’s name.
• Cancellations received within 4 working days of the event will not be refunded.
