Arts and Culture
Our activities can help you cultivate a passion for Asian arts and culture. We explore different topics such as appreciating Peranakan tiles and jewelry, hands-on workshops, intimate studio tours by local artists.
We like to spotlight various Asian cultures each year, thus making for some fun-filled activities. Experiencing the rich heritage of our surrounding countries gives us a chance to appreciate the wonders that lie not far from our door.

Book Groups
"There are no faster or firmer friendships than those formed between people who love the same books" - Irving Stone
AWA currently has several book groups that each meet once a month on different days and times. Our traditional style groups allow you the opportunity to meet other women and to participate in regular discussion of books. Book Group members decide on the books to read in advance so that everyone has ample time to obtain and read them.
Group members are asked to host or co-host one meeting per year.
Attendance: As our book groups are often oversubscribed, we ask that you only register for a group if you can attend regularly. If you have registered but you miss three meetings in a row, we will sadly have to cancel your registration to allow another member to participate.

Group 1. Meets in the morning on 2nd Wed of the month
Group 2. Meets in the afternoon on 1st Thu and 2nd Mon of the month (members can choose which of the sessions they prefer to attend)
Group 3. Meets in the afternoon on 2nd Tue of the month
Group 4. Meets in the evening on the 1st Thu of the month

Learn Malay
Selamat Pagi. Makan. Nasi Lemak. Terima Kasih. Have you ever wondered what these words mean? In this group, you will learn to communicate across cultures in Bahasa Melayu. Through friendly and practical lessons, you will learn to speak, read, and write basic Malay. Lessons will be taught by a former schoolteacher. All are welcome, but this activity is ideal for beginners.

Local Tours
AWA offers members the opportunity to explore and learn more about Singapore through an array of Local Tours. Understand the symbolism of Chinese New Year, discover the meaning of Thaipusam or Vesak Day, explore colorful shophouses or Singapore's "black and whites," trek Bukit Timah, or visit Pulau Ubin.
All tours are led by a professional guide. So put on your walking shoes, grab a bottle of water, and get ready to experience something special. There's a lot to discover with AWA Local Tours!

Movie Club
Love movies? Come join us! This social group meets once or twice a month, depending on movie schedules, to watch a film together and then go for lunch or drinks to engage in lively discussions, sharing thoughts and insights.
We’ll meet at various movie theaters 15–20 minutes before the start of the show to purchase our tickets with seats near each other. Afterwards, we’ll head to a nearby place for lunch or drinks. Just cover your own ticket and meal—there’s no money collected by the AWA.

Speaker's Lunch
The Speaker's Lunch is a chance to gather with fellow AWA members and learn something new. Each month, the AWA will introduce you to one of a fascinating range of speakers. These talks will be informative, thought-provoking, and, most of all, fun! This is a fantastic way to meet new members, have fun with long-time friends, and share new experiences together!
The lunches are listed on the AWA calendar for registration each month, and are open to all AWA members.
