The AWA Tennis Committee offers a variety of tennis programs during the fall and spring. Singles, Doubles and WITS are played both seasons. Team Tennis is played from November until February. A number of tennis tournaments are also played throughout the year.
Doubles Rounds
Doubles Rounds is the most social tennis activity offered and provides an opportunity to play with (and against) many players at varied skill levels. This is a great tennis activity, especially if you are new to the area and want to meet a lot of people. Each player is given a round-robin schedule, and will play with different partners and opponents each week. During each match, players will play 3 sets, partnering one set with each of the other players assigned that day.
Singles Challenge
The goal is to allow all tennis players to meet and play other players of the same rating to the best of their abilities in a friendly competition. A schedule of play will be issued to players before the start of the challenge.
Doubles Challenge
Unlike our other tennis activities, the Doubles Challenge presents an opportunity for players to select and play with a single partner. Players and their partners (pairs) play against all other pairs in their respective rating group and/or section of the draw. Each pair must play a match weekly.
W.I.T.S (Women’s Interclub Tennis of Singapore)
WITS offers the opportunity to play competitive interclub/association doubles team play. There are six divisions: A (experienced/college level), Alpha (advanced club level), B (club level), Beta (beginning club level), C (intermediate level) and D (beginner level). Teams compete against other clubs/associations for approximately eight week seasons each fall and spring. Each match consists of 3 doubles lines, best of three sets each.
Team Tennis
Team Tennis is an AWESOME AWA tennis event for all doubles enthusiasts! There is no need to find a partner. All players sign up individually and are placed into two divisions: Advanced or Intermediate. Players are then assigned to teams of 6-8 players through a random draw. On match day each team will field two doubles pairs from their team. Each doubles pair will play one match. Scores are kept and points awarded to the winning teams accordingly. All players on a team must play a minimum of 4 matches for the team. Advanced teams play on Wednesdays, Intermediate teams on Thursdays. The season is 10 weeks with play commencing in November and ending in February. Modifications are made to accommodate the holiday period and for the 1st week with a WITS overlap. Awards will be presented at the end of season AWA luncheon.
