HOME is a charity that works closely with the Ministry of Manpower and Immigration officers in Singapore focusing on advocacy,
welfare and empowerment for migrant workers and trafficked victims in Singapore. HOME collaborates with other NGOS, such as UN Women and the Singapore Law Society, as well as corporations and associations. AWA is organizing a variety of group activities with the women living in HOME shelters. We are currently looking for a new coordinator for this activity - please email

Frequency: 1 to 2 activities per month
RMHC provides support and facilities to families who are caring for a sick child. Volunteers man the reception desk at the Ronald McDonald Family Room (at NUS), a room where families to go for comfort and regrouping. AWA volunteers work the 9 am – 1 pm and 1 pm – 5 pm shifts on Wednesdays. (A 5 pm – 9 pm is also available.) Weekly or monthly shift patterns are available. Frequency: 2 to 4 shifts per month, 4 hours per shift
FFTH is a non-profit voluntary food distribution program established in February 2003 after Singapore-based Austrian couple Henry and Christine Laimer read a report in The Sunday Times about bakeries discarding their unsold bread. Stirred, they then decided to channel surplus food from bakeries to those in need. AWA periodically calls for volunteers (between 12 and 15) for food packing drives. Look for announcements on our

Frequency: Monthly shifts offered, 4 hours in duration
Join fellow AWA members to prepare food for those less fortunate in Singapore. Willing Hearts is a secular, non-affiliated charity that is wholly run by volunteers, apart from a handful of staff. It operates a soup kitchen that prepares, cooks and distributes approximately 6,000 daily meals to over 40 locations island wide, 365 days a year. Beneficiaries include the elderly, the disabled, low income families, children from single parent families or otherwise poverty stricken families, and migrant workers in Singapore.
As in previous years, AWA will arrange monthly shifts for members to gather to prepare food for those less fortunate. Tasks that volunteers can expect to do include preparing daily meals, cleaning dishes, unpacking grocery trucks and repacking donated items. Volunteering with Willing Hearts is a chance for you assist with the assembly of a massive volume of food that will directly impact someone immediately. Contact the AWA coordinator at

kidsREAD is a nationwide reading program launched in 2004 by then Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The mission of kidsREAD is to promote the love of reading and cultivate good reading habits among young Singaporeans, specifically children from low-income families. The target audience of kidsREAD is children between the ages of 4 and 8, regardless of race or religion. AWA is organizing a new group of volunteers to help with the next round of kidsREAD shifts starting soon. A brief training session is required.
Frequency: 1-2 shifts per month, 3-4 hours per shift
