Tennis Overview

Friendship, Fun, and Fair Play

AWA Tennis is open to all AWA members. We welcome women of all tennis abilities and nationalities to a friendly, fun-filled community that prioritizes good sportsmanship, fair play, and mutual respect.

The program has three main objectives:
  • To promote friendly and competitive play
  • To encourage sportsmanship and mutual respect
  • To improve a player's skills and knowledge of the game
Each event has a separate fee that goes toward paying for courts, balls, awards, and other tennis expenses. The main seasons run from September through November, and from February through April. Our tremendously popular Team Tennis is available during the off-season from November through early February.

We are committed to helping our members improve their skills and enjoy the sport. Throughout the year we partner with Savitar Tennis Centre to offer six-week clinics for beginner and intermediate level players. It's a great way to meet potential new team members and, indeed, we already have two teams from AWA competing in the WITS league that were formed from past participants.

Our monthly Girls Night Out tennis evenings are always popular. If you're looking for a social and welcoming crowd of tennis ladies, you've come to the right place. Registration opens on the first of each month and is frequently waitlisted.

We run two tournaments in the Spring for intermediate and advanced level players.

Competitive social tennis opportunities can be found through Doubles Matchplay (intermediate and advanced), Evening Matchplay (ideal for working women), and our more "gently competitive" Rookie Round Robins, which are aimed at beginner and intermediate players.

At the beginning and end of the seasons in September and May, we hold a tennis party welcoming new and existing members, awarding coveted bag tags for our winners throughout the year. This is a great time to socialize and make new friends in the tennis community.

For all our events you will need to get an AWA Tennis Assessment so that we can place you in the most appropriate level. We encourage our members to reassess every 2 to 3 years to keep current. Exceptions to the ratings rule are Evening Matchplay and Girls Night Out, to enable working women to attend these events without having to take time out of their working day to be rated.

AWA Court Assessment System
AWA Tennis uses the AWA Court Assessment System, which is done by the American Club PBI coaches. All new AWA members participating in any AWA tennis activity must have an AWA Court Assessment so that all players are grouped by ability in our different programs to ensure fun and competitive games.

This assessment process does not affect any current NTRP, ITN, or USTA rating you may have and will only be used for AWA events.

For additional information on the assessment or to schedule an assessment, please email the coordinators at assessments@awasingapore.org.

AWA Award Celebration
AWA Tennis will host a year-end party to celebrate the end of the season. It promises to be a fun occasion with great entertainment, prizes, and food. AWA members, Open Tournament participants, and guests are all welcome to this event. Details will be announced in the Spring.

For any other AWA Tennis inquiries, please email our Tennis Chair at tennischair@awasingapore.org.

AWA Code of Conduct
We look forward to welcoming you to our AWA Tennis events. All activities are organized by volunteers who are focused on providing a friendly, enjoyable environment that is run on our principles of inclusiveness, good sportsmanship, and mutual respect. Failure to actively support these principles during any event will result in the AWA Tennis Committee reviewing players' future opportunities to participate.

AWA Tennis Haze Policy
Please check the 1- hour PM2.5 reading for the match location on the day of scheduled play using the government website www.haze.gov.sg or the NEA app.

1 hr PM2.5 Reading Below 100: Match can proceed and all players go to match venue for agreed start time. Once there, players are entitled to review the PSI reading. If it is equal to or above 100, players have the choice to postpone and reschedule within 14 days or during '"rainout" week for Team Tennis.

1 hr PM2.5 Reading Equal or Above 100: Players have the choice to postpone.

If captains/pairs mutually agree to reschedule without going to match venue, the match should be rescheduled within 14 days of the original day of play (or during Team Tennis in the "rainout" week allocated).

If captains/pairs do not mutually agree, players must go to the match venue by the originally agreed upon start time. Failure of any player to be at the match venue results in a forfeit. Players at the match venue are entitled to review the PSI readings. If it is equal to or above 100, players have the choice to postpone and reschedule within 14 days.

Thank you for your interest in the AWA events and activities. It is of utmost importance to us that members find placement in their preferred area of interest. As all AWA events and activities are run by volunteers, there are times, due to travel schedules, you may not receive an immediate reply to your email. We do apologize! If you have not heard back from the activity chair within a reasonable time frame please send an email to the board representative at sports@awasingapore.org so that we can follow up on your behalf!
